Cross country girls ranked #5 in the state, boys are named “Team to Watch”
The Jesup cross country teams had a week to prepare for one of their most daunting races of the season. On Sept. 14, JV and Varisty teams competed in their first Saturday meet of the season as part of the Monticello Invite.

The 2A #5 ranked varsity girls went up against four other ranked teams between 1A and 3A including 2A’s #1 ranked Mid-Prarie. Jesup, who has two ranked individual racers (#12 ranked Natalie O’Connor and #17 Amanda Treptow), competed against nine other ranked individuals.

The varsity boys, who had recently been recognized as a 2A “Team to Watch”, also faced stiff competition. They faced six ranked teams between 1A and 3A, including 2A #1 ranked Tipton, and twelve ranked individuals.

“Racing against deep competitive fields can bring the best out of you,” wrote head coach Nick Green on the team’s Facebook page after the event, “and we saw that with multiple season best times or lifetime best times.”

The varsity girls finished sixth of out 15 teams among 86 runners and had a top ten finisher with Amanda Treptow finishing ninth at 20:07, her season best and new personal record.

The varsity boys finished ninth out of sixteen teams among 101 runners and had six athletes finish with season best times and three with personal record bests.

On the JV side, the girls finished fifth out of 13 teams and had a second place finisher with Alexis Vanderwerff’s time of 23:05, her season best. They competed against 81 runners.

The JV boys finished eighth out of 15 teams and 125 runners and had six of their athletes make season best times and four set new personal records.
