Gilbertville Daze starts Friday, July 14
The City of Gilbertville’s community celebration, Gilbertville Daze, starts this week. The two day event will begin on the evening of Friday, July 14, and will run all day and into the night, Saturday, July 15. On Friday evening, the car show
will begin at 5:30 PM. The Prince and Princess Contest starts at 6 PM. Winners will ride in the parade the following morning; and the beer tent is open from 5:30 PM until 1:30 AM. At night, music will be provided by the band, Side Show Bob from 8 PM to 12 AM. Participants in the Prince and Princess contest are limited to kids aged 3-7, and must be registered in the IC/ St. Joe’s School System. Saturday’s list of morning events includes a 5K Run/Walk at 8:00 AM, a parade at 10:00 AM, and various kids events/games beginning at 11:00 AM. The children’s games will take place in City Park, and will include a bouncy house and a kid’s bean bag tournament with a kids pedal pull at 6 PM. In the afternoon there will be an adult bean bag tournament beginning at 2 PM. Pre-registration is required. Music on Saturday night will be provided by the band, Stackhouse, from 8:30 PM until 12:30 AM. Also on Saturday evening, the Womanless Beauty Contest, new event last year, will be held where male participants can be nominated by friends and family to dress in women’s clothing and go on stage. The proceeds will go towards the Gilbertville parks and fire department. Nominations will cost $50 each and will have name buckets placed around town at local businesses for donations in their name. Only the top five nominees will perform on stage. Categories will be either dressing in dinner or night wear, or performing a talent, depending on placement. Gilbertville Daze’s finale will take place at 10:00 PM Saturday night with a fireworks display at Veteran’s Park. Both Friday evening and all day Saturday, food vendors will be available. The beer tent will open on Saturday at 1:30 PM and stay open until
